Layers

“You cannot desire something and notice that it isn’t coming without offering two contradictory vibrations that won’t let it come” Abraham – Hicks

As a coach, I am constantly peeling back the layers of what’s going on in my student’s head. If what people are telling themselves conflicts with their goals they will always struggle. When there are two opposing stories, the strongest narrative usually wins.

If someone is struggling to get the ball in the air because they are telling themselves they need to lift the ball up, then they will continue to create an early low point. If a player is topping the ball and they are telling themselves they’re lifting their head, they will stop all rotation in an effort to “keep their head down”. If a player keeps self-sabotaging on their finishing holes because they’re internal dialogue is saying they don’t deserve success, they will blow up.

We have to understand “why” something is happening. Only then can we coach techniques and strategies to create a new pathway. We have to build up a tolerance to the uncomfortable feelings that result from challenging the narrative in our head.

Good coaches know how to listen to the things that aren’t being said.
