Unpacking Our Fears
Limiting beliefs, worthiness, self-sabotage… we unpacked it all early in the season. We dove deep into our fears and what holds us back in life, success, school, golf. It was important to me for each player to know their old patterns so we could find ways to defuse the emotions once they resurfaced. We became very close as a team, trusting each other with our deepest fears on and off the course and I believe it was knowing we had each other’s backs unconditionally that created an unbreakable bond with this team.
Staying In Our Lane 💛 We made it our team goal to stay in our lane which I think was what bonded us as a team that year. We are a Canadian school competing for a US National title so we needed to figure out who we were and stick to it no matter what happened. We identified our strengths and used them, and we knew our weaknesses and planned around them. This team moto is what grounded us and allowed us to find ourselves as players and me as a coach. It gave us the freedom to be authentically ourselves.
Controlling My Emotions 💙 My goal on the final day was to not let them see me sweat. I made a pact with our S&C Trainer that I would freak out on her and not show the team my nerves. It was the most important thing I did as a coach that week as I provided a safe space for the players to express themselves so they could be their best selves during that week.
The Final Hole 💛 I gave our S&C Trainer my phone on the 15th hole so I would stop refreshing GolfStat. I had no idea where we were at as we were truly battling it out with Keiser University for every shot. I watch our senior hole out from 100 yards on 16 and as I walked in our last player on 18 she asked me if she needed to make it and my response was “I think so”. She dunked it from the fairway in front of the crowd and I knew we had won. It was the best feeling I’ve ever had in golf.
