Self Trust

Have you ever felt nervous to play golf? Anxious to play with people you don’t know? Panicky to tee it up in your first tournament? Nervy the night before a National event? If your answer is yes, keep reading.

You see, performance anxiety focuses on control by seeking safety in the outcome. But if we aren’t in control of the outcome, which we aren’t in golf, then we are setting ourselves up for a huge disappointment. On the other side of anxiety is self trust. Self trust finds the safety within ourselves. Trust that we will manage whatever happens on the golf course. That we will meet ourselves in whatever challenges that may come. Anxiety isn’t a bad thing, if we can teach ourselves to ground it within an unwavering faith that no matter what happens, we will be ok.

Emotions are often not our biggest issue, it’s our relationship to these emotions that can trip us up. In these moments of nerves and anxiety just remember that we can take care of ourselves through the unknown, the unpredictable and the hard. If you think about it, we’ve survived 100% of the things we have been through, isn’t it time we stop worrying so much and start trusting ourselves a bit more? So the next time, the nerves start to surface, remind yourself that no matter what happens, you’ve got this.
